For Storck, responsible confectionery production means using resources sparingly. Storck uses modern, highly efficient technologies for energy and cooling in its production processes. Hybrid recoolers are a good example of this.
The Dominican Republic offers ideal climate conditions for growing cocoa. We established the La Magdalena cocoa farm with a local partner in the country’s north-east. Our own production allows us to guarantee the quality of fine cocoa, which is of great importance for our chocolate, and to control the ecological and social conditions on site.
We are continuously pursuing the installation of photovoltaic systems for the production of climate-neutral solar electricity at our sites. In conjunction with additional measures, using solar energy will contribute to covering over 50% of our electricity consumption with our own power generation by 2030.
The health, motivation, and performance of our employees are important for good work results – and for enjoyment at work. That is why the Occupational Health Management (OHM) program at our production sites in Berlin, Halle, and Ohrdruf focuses on health promotion, occupational medicine, and counseling.
Storck has been buying cocoa from the Kallari Cooperative of Ecuador since 2022.
Fungal and virus infections are a danger to cocoa farming. They threaten the harvest, especially in West Africa, the most important cocoa growing region. Up to an estimated 30% of the harvest is lost due to infections.
In cooperation with the cocoa cooperative ECAMOM and Fairtrade, Storck and a trade partner are supporting the smallholders of this cooperative.
